Plume, the Vineyard Restaurant is Matakana’s finest wine tasting and wine tour, and is home to Runner Duck Estate which is committed to excellence in the wine that it produces and will simply not produce unless the year has delivered a quality harvest. Runner Duck specialises in the French varietals, and the vintages show what the Matakana terroir is capable of producing from its clay loam soils. The eight acre boutique vineyard located at 37 Duck Creek Road in Warkworth, a town whose symbol is the duck, was planted in 2003.
Wine Tasting at Plume’s Matakana restaurant gives you the opportunity to taste their French/Italian/Spanish inspired Reds and Whites and Rose at their Cellar Door, which is located at Plume Restaurant on 49A, Sharp Road. The Italian inspired vineyard adjoins the restaurant, while all the other grapes come from their main vineyard which is about four kilometres away from the restaurant.
Wine Tastings take place at their splendidly decorated cellar door with the beautiful New Zealand landscape as the perfect backdrop. Wine Tastings are available Wednesday to Friday from 11 am to 2 pm, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 to 3 pm.
They offer Wine Tasting of four of their Wines (they recommend you try the Rose, Albarino and two of their best reds!) free at the Cellar Door for the casual visitor without any need for advance booking. However, in case the cellar door is busy when you do come in you may have to wait a while.
Groups of eight or more need to make advance bookings which need to be confirmed – and Wine Tasting will be done in the Wine Library of Plume Restaurant or for larger groups in our Rengarenga room where they hold events – these will be charged for at $ 12 per guest for the Wine Tasting.
