Exercise is an important part of keeping teens healthy, and encouraging healthy lifestyles in children and teens is important for when they grow older. Lifestyles that are learned in childhood are more likely to stay with the child into adulthood, and a daily exercise program helps to establish good heart-healthy habits. Health & Sports have recently introduced two new teen classes, to help with the regular physical activity teens need to help them feel more energetic, improve focus and attention, and promote a better outlook.
Teenagers need at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity on most days to maintain good health and fitness, and for healthy weight during growth. Regular physical activity can help children and adolescents improve cardiorespiratory fitness, build strong bones and muscles, control weight, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and reduce the risk of developing health conditions such as heart disease.
Exercise benefits every part of the body, including the mind, and exercising causes the body to make chemicals that can help a person feel good. Exercise can help people sleep better, and it can also help some teens who have mild depression and low self-esteem.
As kids enter their teen years, they might lose interest in physical activity. Between school, homework, friends, and even part-time jobs, they’re juggling a lot of interests and responsibilities. Health & Sports’ new teen classes are 45minutes, Monday to Thursday and are fully supervised, with experienced fitness instructors.
As they say at Health & Sports, “We all know what impact fitness has on our own mental health and wellbeing and it’s no different for our kids. We’re proud to introduce two new classes just for teens”.
